Round Zero – The East Blackwards: Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis

Adam Wieczorek vs Marcos Rogerio De Lima
Sweet MBA: Wieczorek is on a tear. De Lima is win lose win lose. If it goes to the ground with Wieczorek on his back, De Lima wins. Other than that, Wieczorek by decision.
TheBrane: De Lima is coming off a long layoff since his last fight which was a loss to OSP in April 17. He has also flip flopped wins & losses in his last 6 outings, so with that pattern he is due for a win but with that layoff it will be tough. Wieczorek is on a 9 fight winning streak with all but 1 of his career wins being finishes. He is stepping in on about 10 days notice so it will be interesting to see what will be a budget factor, the time off for Marcos or the short notice for Adam. Marco’s Rogerio De Lima by Decision.

Brian Kelleher vs Montel Jackson
Sweet MBA: Poor Brian. Montell talks alot of trash, even when he’s losing. He will win this by first round KO.
TheBrane: Kelleher exploded into the UFC scene riding a 6 fight streak and upset the gritty vet Iuri Alcantara with a 1st Rd Submission win. Since then Brian has sandwiched a couple of wins between 2 losses. Here will look to bounce back against a young up & comer with a dynamic finishing ability oin Montel Jackson. Jackson recently suffered the only setback in his young career in a decision loss to Ricky Simon. This was also only the second time Jackson had made it to the judges scorecards as he has finished 5 of his 6 Professional, & all 3 of his Amateur bouts. They say you learn more from losses than wins & Montel will need that in facing a vet like Kelleher. Montel Jackson by TKO

Shane Burgos vs Kurt Holobaugh
Sweet MBA: The return of Hurricane Shane. I suspect Shane wins by 3rd round submission.
TheBrane: Burgos is coming off the first loss of his career but has the most instinct that has him at an 80% finishing rate having only gone three distance twice in his 10 wins. Holobaugh has not had much luck with his time in the UFC, this is his v second stint & he has lost both his fights under the flagship. He also had his KO Victory on DWTNCS overturned by the NSAC for improper use of an IV. If he can’t secure a win here it’s likely that he will be shown the door so safe to say he will be putting it all on the line here. Shane Burgos by Decision

Matt Frevola vs Lando Vannata
Sweet MBA: Things just ain’t the same for gangsters. Also not the same for Groovy Vannata. I don’t know what the future has in store for Jackson Wink but I wonder if thats why Lando didn’t show up in his last fight. I suspect he will against Frevola but he will take a lot of damage doing so. Vannata by 2nd round TKO.
TheBrane: Frevola recently suffered the first setback of his career in Jan and I feel slightly at fault because I had just picked the kid up on my fantasy squad & I have a bad luck streak of picking up fighters on hot steaks and then they get knocked out. For that I apologize Matt, since then i’ve dropped him from my team. Vanatta is an interesting case study because the guy does not have success in the UFC at all but he is always very entertaining to watch. After coming in to the organization at 8-0 Groovy Lando has amassed a 1-3-1 record. But I feel like his style is so fun to watch that you don’t even remember that he has a losing record, you just see his name on the lineup & think, this is a FOTN Candidate. That said, I don’t know that he can keep escaping that highway to Bellator if he doesn’t get back into the win column soon. Lando Vanatta by TKO.

Lyman Good vs Ben Saunders
Sweet MBA: Killer Beeeees on the swarm Alaikum as-salaam, drops bombs like Qur’an The ism helps to stimulate my pugilism I bust rhymes like jism Impregnate the rhythm with the wisdom Ben Saunders by 2nd round submission. 10th Planet is on a tear and Wu Tang never loses in NY.
TheBrane: Good is coming off a loss and a 16 month layoff. To top that off he has to face a new opponent, Ben Saunders on two weeks notice. Saunders has currently lost 3 of his last 4 bouts and is showing he is not ready to take things the safe route to save his status by stepping up on short notice. Killa B has always been a gamer ready to go to War at anytime and he is going to be on a mission to get back into the winning column as he knows the difference of fighting in the UFC vs anywhere else as this is his 3rd stint in the octagon. Ben Saunders by Decision.
Fred Yu: No comment
Julio Arce vs Sheymon Moraes
Sweet MBA: Slept on Arce. I won’t again. Arce by decision.
TheBrane: Arce is riding a 7 fight winning streak while finishing 4 of those opponents. Moraes only two losses were against Marlon Moraes & Zabit Magomedsharipov which are no reason to hang your head. Somebody will be looking to put their name on the map in this one. Sheymon Moraes by Decision.

Sijara Eubanks vs Roxanne Modafferi
Sweet MBA: This is the first of the how could you Dana. I mean I see how, we must move the division forward. However in terms of my 2018 fantasy league this is terrible. Sijara is my soul sister. We see the world very similar. A couple more fights and her hands will be as nasty as her hands and ground game. Roxanna on the other hand is who my mother would be if she had stayed with Judo and became a mma fighter. However there was no mma in the 50’s and not for women. No matter who wins, I lose. Roxanne’s elbow are incredible but I believe Sijara’s high round house after she fakes the take down is the game changer. Sijara by decision.
TheBrane: Eubanks had the misfortune of being hyped to have a main event title shot, too suddenly having a prelim fight against the woman who stepped in on short notice to fight for the inaugural title in her absence when she failed to make weight at the TUF 26 Finale back in Dec. Sarj is as tough as they come though so I hardly think they all these changes would effect her performance at all. Modafferi however is like a fine wine because she has gotten better as she has aged. The Happy Warrior started fighting way back in 2003 & had a really rough 6 fight skid from 2010-2013 but has really hit her stride the last few years going 7-3 since 2014. This will be a tough match up for both ladies. Roxanne Modafferi by Submission

Jason Knight vs Jordan Rinaldi
Sweet MBA: Neither of these two have really performed to their hype. Could be taco time. Could be an injury. Rinaldi by decision.
TheBrane: Knight is on a 3 fight skid while Rinaldi has lost 2 of his last 3. These guys are pretty much fighting for a roster spot here so we should get some fireworks. Jason Knight by Decision.

Derek Brunson vs Israel Adesanya
Sweet MBA: This is the second of the how could you Dana. I have been a fan of Derek Brunson since Strikeforce. He built Jackson Wink with Rashad. He is family with one of the DREAM Ear team members. Next time I call you Derek, stop fronting bro, I want you to win and be healthy. Meanwhile, Israel is a Nigerian who fights of out Auckland. He is my Kiwi wife’s favorite favorite, has trained me some, and rolls with my New Zealand fam. These are two of my favorite 185’ers ever. This goes two ways. If Derek drops his head and throws hooks, Israel will smoke him. If Derek fakes the strikes and wrestles, I am not convinced Israel is ready for Derek. Draw.
TheBrane: Adesanya burst on the scene this year and is already on his 4th UFC bout and his level of competition is growing as he climbs that ladder. His flashy striking style is fun to watch & his charisma can be felt inside and outside the cage. It will be interesting to see how he will handle Brunsons grappling abilities. Brunson has had his ups and downs the last few years, he gets to the point where he is a win or two away from title contention and then has a setback but I still think he can make a good run to try for that shot if he can get past the surging StyleBender. To do that I think Derek has to go back to his wrestling roots & put Adesanya on his back & smother him. I don’t know if Brunson has fell too much in love with the striking game too revert back to his takedowns but that may be his key to victory here. If not he will be in for a long night at the office. Derek Brunson by Decision.
Fred Yu: The last STYLEBENDER by UD.
Karl Roberson vs Jack Marshman
Sweet MBA: Yall just gonna feed Karl eh? Roberson by 1st round KO.
TheBrane: Roberson is coming off the first loss of his young career and since his pro debut he has not been past the 1st round. Despite being the same age, Marshman has much more experience starting 5 years before Karl & having 22 more fights on his record. The Hammer has flip flopped his 4 fights in the octagon after riding a 6 fight streak that brought him to the big show. Jack Marshman by Decision.
Fred Yu: No comment
David Branch vs Jared Cannonier
Sweet MBA: Great match up. Branch’s hands got that fire. However when he gets taken down, he will quit. Cannonier by TKO.
TheBrane: Branch was set to face Jacare who is now fighting Chris Weidman oin the Co Main Event after Luke Rockhold pulled out due to injury. Coincidently Rockhold is the only person to beat Branch in 13 fights dating back to 2012. After holding both Middleweight & Light Heavyweight Titles in WSOF Branch would love to get himself a Title Shot in the biggest MMA organization of all. Cannonier steps up on short notice replacement against a dangerous opponent to show he is ready to do what is needed for the company. Coming off two consecutive losses & 3 of his last 4, hopefully the company returns the favor if he doesn’t pull off the win here because it would be unfortunate to see a guy get cut after doing the UFC a favor. David Branch by TKO

Chris Weidman vs Ronaldo Souza
Sweet MBA: We will see who’s jiu jitsu is the truth. I am deeply intrigued. This fight should have happened long ago. The student of Renzo’s students versus the man to submit Roger Gracie with a broken arm. Beyond excited. Souza by 3rd round TKO.
TheBrane: Weidman is still delusional talking about how he deserves a title shot if he wins, this guy is 1-3 in his last 4 fights barely beating Kelvin Gastelum in his first fight coming up from 170 back in July 2017 after a 3 fight skid. I think Weidman needs to pump his brakes and Jacare is just the guy who could do that for him. Souza is actually 1-2 in his last 3 fights but both losses are too the 2 men who will Duke it out for the title next in Gastelum & MW Champion Robert Whittaker. I think Jacare’s slick BJJ will be the perfect counter attack for Weidmans wrestling. Jacare Souza by Submission.
Fred Yu: Jacare by Jujitsu
Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis
Sweet MBA: Thanks for saving the card. Cormier by 2nd round submission.
TheBrane: Lewis has said this is an opportunity he couldn’t pass on & not one he felt he definitely deserved. After his last two performances, (both wins) he could be right as neither were anything close to dominant. However The Black Beast has extreme KO Power no matter how late the fight goes he is ldangerous. Cormier is the Double Champ for a reason and his only loss in his career is to the wasted talent that could’ve been the clear cut GOAT in Jon Jones. DC is not only an extremely well rounded fighter but the man has an extremely high fighter IQ as well. He will use every tool he has yipp overcome the bigger, stronger, scarier Lewis. Yes I did order the “MY BALLS WAS HOT” T Shirt and I will wear it fight night, but let’s be honest this is DC vs Rumble 3.0 & we know how the first two went. Daniel Cormier by Submission.
